My thoughts

I like to have a scale around the house just so I can keep track of my weight. I like to stay healthy. I find a scale useful when I am trying to get back to my pre pregnancy weight. I am the type of person that wants to have numbers.

Anyways, my previous scale was awful. I could gain and lose 5 pounds in 10 minutes! It very rarely provided an accurate weight. So I have been looking for a new scale. When I read about the Ozeri WeightMaster digital bath scale, I knew I had to try it out. I decided to get a black scale because all my weight scales would get dirty no matter how hard I tried to keep them clean.

When I opened the package, I instantly liked the scale. It was light weight and very sleek! I first had to program the scale to my height and then get my weight so the scale would remember me as a user. It was really easy to setup the user. Plus, the scale will allow up to 5 users which is super handy if more than 1 person wants to watch their weight. Once the scale has your weight and height, then it can provide you with your BMI so you can know if you are in your recommended zone.

I absolutely love the weight tracking feature! It is so nice to see if you have gained or lost weight from the previous week. The weight change is indicated by color which is helpful for the ones that like to see things visually. The picture (provided by Ozeri) shows how the weight tracking feature works.

I definitely have enjoyed this scale! If you want a scale that is easy to use and has some great features, then this is the scale for you!

I received one or more of the products mentioned above for free using Tomoson.com. Regardless, I only recommend products or services I use personally and believe will be good for my readers.

Book trailer

My thoughts

My family loves books. I love sharing my love for books with my kiddos. When I was contacted about reviewing a new book, Little Elliot Big City, there was no hesitation on my part. I couldn't wait to get the copy of it and when it finally arrived, I quickly opened it so I could read it with my boys.

Monkey really loved the book. Each page is filled with colorful illustrations and simple sentences. By the time I was done reading the sentence on each page, Monkey was ready to see the next page. Little Elliot Big City is a cute book about the best treasure is a friend. I loved the message of the book about how friends are there to help each other out. And as you can tell, Monkey loves this book. I will catch him "reading" it frequently at my house. Now Monkey wants to have an elephant and eat cupcakes together!

This cute book will be on sale August 26! Make sure you get yours because you won't be disappointed.

Ozeri Fresko Duo Salt & Pepper Grinder Review

About the product
  • Designed in Germany and made of the highest quality stainless steel
  • Features powerful ceramic gears for effortless grinding action of peppercorns, salt, and spices
  • Boasts a space-saving design that combines dual BPA-free salt and pepper chambers in one grinder
  • Includes two adjustable knobs for grain adjustment from fine to coarse
  • Transparent container reveals the grinding action and makes monitoring pepper level easy; Satisfaction Guaranteed

My thoughts

I love using freshly ground pepper and salt so it is extremely important for me to have a good salt and pepper grinders. I was really excited for the chance to try the Fresko duo salt and pepper grinder because my pepper grinder broke last week.

The duo grinder is an interesting concept and I didn't know if I would like it. However, I do! The grinder is really simple to fill with salt and pepper, and it is really easy to use. I love how the grinder isn't super huge because it can easily fit in my spice cupboard. The only downside to the grinder is the fact that it doesn't hold a lot of salt and pepper. I think if the grinder was just a little bit bigger than it would be perfect.

I find having the pepper and salt in the small grinder super helpful because you only need to pass around one grinder when someone wants salt and pepper. The grinder has a sleek design and allows you to adjust how fine to how coarse you want your salt and pepper. I haven't encountered any problems with it as I have used it over the last several weeks.

I absolutely recommend getting this salt and pepper grinder.

Shake The Crave Review

                                                 Shake the Crave

About the product

Find Out Why Shake the Crave Works When Most Other Products Don't

You're about to learn the most common reasons why diet products and programs fail. Then you'll hear about what makes Shake the Crave different and why it works so well
But first, learn why diets don't work - the "vicious cycle" of dieting.

Have You Ever Experienced This "Vicious Cycle" When Going on a Diet?

If you've ever gone on a diet, you know that it's just not sustainable. It causes you to deprive yourself of food, puts too many expectations on you, and makes you feel guilty if you happen to "cheat" or get off track.
These crash diets often fail because they are based on the vicious cycle of:
Motivation > Deprivation > Craving > Indulgence > Guilt > Loss of Motivation.

Here's how this vicious cycle works:
You kick off the diet feeling really motivated. You then start depriving yourself of calories, nutrients, and your favorite foods. Next, you begin having these intense cravings for junk food, snacks and processed food...chips, soda, bread, you name it. At some point, you finally break down and indulge. Then you feel guilty, blame yourself and even have negative thoughts about yourself. You question your willpower and sometimes even your character. Finally, you lose motivation and slack off or just flat-out quit.
If any of us actually make it all the way to the end of the diet... most of us end up putting the weight right back on, because we're finally given the chance to live our lives again without all the restrictions, worry and stress about food.
Sound familiar?
If this has ever happened to you, you are not alone. And it's not your fault.

This is Why Most Diet Programs and Products Fail...

The Calorie Control Council recently surveyed dieters and asked them why they "failed" or quit their diets. The top reasons were:
  • They didn't exercise enough
  • They felt their metabolism slowing down
  • They splurged on favorite foods too often
  • They lacked self-discipline
  • They snacked too much
People often blame themselves for their diet failing - but more often than not, the diet fails the person, not the other way around.
You see, most diet programs and products are full of processed foods and ingredients - they might encourage you to eat less food, but they totally ignore the quality of the foods you eat. This makes it harder to get the nutrients you need from real food and to achieve your goals.
When you're starving for nutrients, you have less energy and you don't feel like exercising. When you always feel hungry, it's easy to give into junk food cravings for the temporary lift they give you.

Diet shakes and meal replacements aren't any better.
It's not just the diet programs that are at fault. Most diet shakes and meal replacements are filled with things like genetically-modified ingredients (GMOs), MSG, artificial sweeteners, fillers, binders, and synthetic or isolated nutrients that provide little or no nutritional value. Some of these ingredients could even harm your health and in some cases are designed to get you to eat more. (Have you ever just ate five potato chips and stopped?)
Besides that, these shakes don't taste too great either. Most of them taste pretty bad. What's the point of trying to get in better shape if you have to suffer through taking the product that is supposed to help you?

Why Shake the Crave is Different...

These problems with diet programs and products frustrated us deeply. We wanted to offer a simple and delicious way to support your healthy lifestyle goals, without the hype, artificial ingredients, or unrealistic dietary restrictions.
http://www.trustedhealthproducts.com/shake-the-crave-intro-offer/img/pure-seal.pngYou should enjoy the journey toward your lifestyle goals, and taste is a big part of that. So we spent the last couple of years researching and developing a healthy shake that tastes great, fills you up and helps you feel full longer.
Most shake formulas are long laundry lists of cheap, low quality ingredients that together may or may not give your body much benefit. On the other hand, Shake the Crave is based on years of experience and research in physiology - the science of how your body works and what it needs in order to function best.
Most shakes have fillers, binders, flavorings, colors and preservatives... all of which make it tougher on your body to digest and absorb the actual nutrients in the product. On the other hand, every ingredient in Shake the Crave has a common purpose: to benefit your body directly. No fillers, no fluff. Just pure ingredients working together to nourish your body and help you feel fuller longer.

The Right Form of the Right Ingredients in the Right Combination = Shake the Crave
Our research has shown that it's not just about the individual ingredients, or number of ingredients, but rather about the best form of the right ingredients working together in the right combination to produce the best results for your body.
The result is Shake the Crave, the great tasting shake that fills you up, boosts your energy and helps you feel full longer.

My thoughts

I will be perfectly honest here. I don't do "diets". I don't believe in them for several reason (starving yourself, buying "special drinks/vitamins/meals", eliminating random foods from your diet based on "their research results"). I believe in eating healthy, exercising, and moderation in ALL things. The best way I have found to lose weight is eating very little sugar (treats), eliminating processed foods, eating lots of fruits and vegetables, drinking lots of water, getting a good night's rest, and doing some form of exercise.

Anyways, I was interested about trying Shake The Crave because of its organic ingredients, how it helps curb your appetite, and how it isn't a replacement meal/drink. The idea of having a drink that would help fight the cravings would be great for so many people!

I decided to try the Vanilla Shake Mix because I am avoiding chocolate for personal reasons. I ended up making the shakes at night because that is when I start getting some cravings or the "munchies", and I hate the temptation to eat right before bed. I used my magic bullet to blend up the mix with some milk because the directions said that the mix is best done using a blender (trust me, you want to use a blender because a spoon doesn't mix it well enough). The shake had a rich vanilla flavor and had a mild sweetness to it. A little after I finished the drink, I noticed that I didn't have my cravings for a salty snack! It was nice to not have the temptation.

I tried the Vanilla Shake twice and it was really good. The first time I did a regular shake and the second time I made a fruit smoothie. I was pleased with both results. I feel that this Shake The Crave mix will be especially helpful for those who are trying to fight your cravings especially at night. I love the fact that the mixes are organic, are made in the USA, and and not a meal replacement. It is nice to know that the shake mixes are for a healthy snack or a good addition to your meal. I totally recommend you trying them out and make sure you take advantage of the special offer!! (see below)

A Choice? Yes. But ALSO a disease

Dear Blogger,

Good morning. How are you today? Probably a bit angry with the response you received to your latest post. I would be too if 75-80% of the people who responded were insulting me and my intelligence. BUT, read through the anger, there's a reason it's there. You chose to address the death of a beloved man. One who made so many of your reader's childhoods just a bit unique. One who was, according to ALL who knew him, kind and generous. Who wouldn't think anything of helping anyone who needed it. One who cheered up others in their darkest moments even when he was fighting his. I agree with you to a point: A disease didn't take him, a choice did. BUT, what you seem to be glossing over, is that the choice was caused by a disease.

Have you ever had a moment where all you can hear is the negative? Where you feel as if you're sinking deeper and deeper in? Where you'd be willing to do ANYTHING to get out? Where you suddenly think, "I can end this permanently. I can take my life and then I'll never have to face this moment EVER AGAIN."? I have. In fact, the first time was when I was 11. Yup, 11. Luckily, I'm afraid of pain and I'm afraid of others thinking I'm a coward, so I've never followed through, but the urge has been strong. Don't you DARE belittle a disease like this. Having Depression is very different than being depressed. Very, very different. It's a constant battle. You'll have years where you'll think "I'm done! It's defeated! I haven't had an episode in over a year. Now it's a distant memory and I can focus on helping others past this." Then, suddenly, it's back. Sometimes it comes back in whispers and sometimes it comes roaring back like an express train. If you've lowered your defenses enough, thinking you'd permanently won the war, it can come back hard enough that it almost tips you over the cliff. That cliff comes up so quickly and the things you have to go through to get past it seem so scary, that jumping off it seems like a relief. The release you'd feel and the light you'd find would have to be better than the darkness you're battling.

It's not just you. I wish it was, boy do I wish it was. There are so many people who completely blame the person. Many of them are children of suicide victims. I get that. In that case, I'd blame the person too. It's hard to be objective when you're the one that was left behind. But, if you haven't been through that particular life-long trial, you don't have the right to judge. You have the right to help though. Offer a helping hand to someone who's having a rough time. Let people know that it's NORMAL to struggle, that there are ways to find the light through all of the swirling vortex of darkness that they're swimming through. In short: help normalize mental illness. For centuries people have chosen to ignore that it happens. For centuries the agreed upon way of handling it has been a special form of "don't ask don't tell" or "ignore it and it will go away". These teachings are dangerous. Personally, I believe that this way of thinking has lead to the significant increase of suicide by adults. People you'd think would be old enough to "know better" start thinking that the have no where else to turn so they take the only option they feel they have- they end it all.

I'm taking a stand. I'm putting myself out there and saying "This is me. I am who I am and some days I really don't like it. Some days I think the only way of dealing with it is by NOT dealing with it. Some days I have to almost physically fight to stay above the darkness. I am a face of Depression and I'm not afraid to own it.I will fight for others who have this and I will do whatever it takes to normalize this." No one deserves to go through what Robin Williams' friends and family are going through right now. No one deserves to have to try to rationalize the person they knew making a sudden and decisive choice like this, just as no one deserves the thoughts that lead him to this choice.

Please, have compassion. Please, use your blog for good. Use your platform of hundreds of thousands of followers to take a stand and say "It was a choice, caused by a disease, how can we help make sure no one makes that choice again?" Please, at least think about it.

Sincerely yours,

Hannah Horne

Scotch Duct Tape Review & "Tape On Back-to-School Contest”

About the products

Scotch tape is making duct tape in colors, patterns, and holiday themes. These novelty duct tapes are designed so you can do fun projects such as book covers, dog collars, and bracelets. On their website, you can see all the kinds of duct tape there are!

My thoughts

I don't do a lot with duct tape except the usual things for it. However, I have never heard about duct tape with patterns and fun colors. I was sent a box with an assortment of Scotch Duct Tape rolls. The rolls I got were: Batman, hot pink, grey elephants, and rainbow scales. I love to do craft projects; however, since I started a family my time for craftiness has been greatly reduced.

I decided I would first fix this credit card holder that my little boy got for free. He likes to play with it, and I felt it would be even better with Batman duct tape.

I think it looks awesome and it totally fits my little boy.

My next projects that I am planning on doing will be: 1) fixing up some frames with duct tape for my kids' bedroom, and 2) making my binders & planners in my project room more colorful. There are so many things you can do with duct tape!

Here are some more ideas:

Tape On Back-to-School Contest

Scotch Duct Tape is hosting a Back-to-School contest that asks teens to create an original back-to-school craft with duct tape and submit a photo that shows how they’re going back to school in style for a chance to win $1,000. The Tape On Back-to-School contest just launched and lasts until August 18th on the Scotch Facebook page.

Teen Vlogger, Sarai Jones, will be judging the contest and has a created a fun video with locker decorations for inspiration. The contest will include prizes for the top four winners with first place receiving $1000, second place receiving $500 and third and fourth place receiving $250.

Make sure you check out the contest!

Veggie Tales: Celery Night Fever Review & Giveaway

About the product

In Celery Night Fever, the retro funkadelic sights and sounds of polyester leisure suits and disco balls take center stage – along with a timeless message of friendship and forgiveness. Actor Terry Crews provides the voice of Bruce Onion, a nefarious real-estate developer who plans to turn the serene, green Celery Park into a parking lot. His unsavory scheme spurs Laura Carrot and Junior Asparagus to enact a bold plan: reuniting the long-lost ’70s band The Groovy Brothers to play at a fund-raising concert. The problem is, The Groovy Brothers haven’t spoken to each other in decades, and the members have little interest in getting back together.  Their long-simmering feud spills over to affect Laura and Junior.  It’s not just Celery Park that’s in jeopardy – if best friends can’t learn to forgive each other and accept each other’s faults, the veggies might lose their cherished community gathering spot. Celery Night Fever features six original songs, including a rousing number from Bruce Onion, showcasing the musical side of Terry Crews.

About Veggie Tales

VeggieTales has been a trusted parenting partner to moms of preschoolers – and the world’s number one purveyor of silly songs -- for more than 20 years. It is truly a homegrown brand, created in 1993 by Phil Vischer and Mike Nawrocki, founders of Big Idea Productions, as a show to entertain their own children. But Phil and Mike soon discovered their veggies were more than just a garden-variety kids’ show: The off-the-wall stories and sing-along fun rooted in biblical morals and values struck a gourd – er, chord – with parents nationwide, and boys and girls everywhere proved wrong the old stereotype that kids just don’t like vegetables.
Phil and Mike have remained at the creative roots of VeggieTales, producing more than 50 original VeggieTales adventures, which first appeared on VHS (remember that?) and became the most popular Christian entertainment brand for kids in the U.S. – selling more than 70 million DVDs, 15 million books and 7 million CDs.
Each VeggieTales story incorporates original music and imaginative storytelling to relate the lighthearted escapades of a group of animated vegetable friends, led by Bob the Tomato and Larry the Cucumber.
Their exploits frequently offer gentle parodies of pop culture – and, most importantly to fans, impart an important character trait for children, such as honesty, contentment, kindness, sharing and forgiveness. At the end of each story, Bob and Larry share Bible passages that reflect and reinforce the lessons they and their veggie crew have learned, always leaving viewers with the important reminder: “God made you special, and He loves you very much.”
VeggieTales made an organic transition to U.S. network television in 2006, where it appeared on NBC through 2009; and the whole gang stirred the pot at the box office by appearing in two feature-length theatrical films, Jonah (2002) and The Pirates Who Don’t Do Anything (2009).  Fans have been able to enjoy live stage shows across the country featuring their favorite veggie characters, and this fall will be able to see them in an all-new Netflix original series, VeggieTales In the House.  In 2012, VeggieTales became part of DreamWorks Animation when the studio acquired Big Idea’s parent company, Classic Media.
In a crowded field of entertainment for kids, VeggieTales is the single most trusted and most popular brand among practicing Christian moms, according to a 2014 survey by Barna Research Group. That study found that 91 percent of those moms rated the series from 8 to 10 on “family-friendliness,” outscoring other well-known, popular kids’ entertainment properties by double digits. The study also found that the series’ appeal crosses generational lines, with even more “Millennial” Christian moms describing themselves as “big fans” of the series than those who belong to “Generation X.”
In the past 20 years, VeggieTales has inspired a full line of popular products, including books, audio CDs and computer games; smartphone apps; a wide variety of toys, clothing and home décor, plus a Bible study curriculum for home and church.

My thoughts

It was about a year ago that I was introduced to Veggie Tales. Why so long? To be honest, I thought they looked stupid. Thankfully, my sister fixed that when she gave my oldest boy two Veggie Tales DVDs.  I decided to watch them with my son, and I was so surprised by how funny, cute, and entertaining the movies were. But the best part about the Veggie Tales is that they teach good principles. I love it when shows teach about faith and God. I don't let Monkey watch a lot of "television" (we don't have cable, but we do have movies) because I don't want him wasting time and being exposed to harmful messages. With Veggie Tales, I don't have to worry about what Monkey is picking up from the shows. I enjoy watching them too and I get to relax with my kiddos. Plus, my husband loves Veggie Tales too so it is a great family show for my family.

Celery Night Fever is another great Veggie Tale movie. I love the message about forgiving others and remembering to not focus on the faults of others. I loved the opportunity to talk to Monkey about this movie and what forgiveness means. I absolutely enjoyed watching this movie. And, now let me share Monkey's thoughts. Monkey was so excited to watch Celery Night Fever, and he keeps asking to watch it again. In his words, "I love Veggie Tales. Lets watch it again, please."

And, don't forget about Silly Songs by Larry! I love watching these because they are so catchy and so hilarious. I hope you enjoy this movie as much as my family did.
